Bottom Watering Plants Terracotta. Tips on using terra cotta pots for houseplants. Here’s how the oasis works:
Clean an empty wine bottle and fill with water. Someone needs to be there to do the watering. Self watering pots that wick water upwards from a water reservoir below have been around for decades.
I do however use them in one of my larger aquariums for my territorial fish!
It’s a simple process, and due to the spout, it doesn’t require moving anything. The holes on the bottom let excess water drain away and stop potting soil from becoming damp all the time. The other end with a pointed tip has very small holes. People believe that a layer of gravel in the bottom of pots will improve drainage and keep the soil from spilling out, and besides, that’s how we’ve always done it, so it must be right.
